In survival mode, players must overcome the dangers of hostile creatures and hazardous environments to survive in the game’s world. Minecraft was created by Swedish programmer Markus Persson and released in 2009. It has been wildly successful, reaching more than 100 million downloads and becoming one of the most popular games on mobile devices, consoles and computers. The game’s pixelated appearance and blocky characters are reminiscent of early video games, but its strong community and open-ended gameplay have made it an appealing choice for people of all ages.

The basic mechanics of the game are simple: Players spawn in a world with nothing but dirt, then can move around by clicking on blocks to pick them up and place them. They can also combine blocks to make tools and weapons; for example, four wood blocks can be crafted into a crafting table, from which players can create a sword or bow. Players can also collect materials from the environment and tame animals, which they can then use to protect themselves from enemies or gather crops.

The game’s worlds are infinitely customizable, thanks to a system that generates new environments randomly. For instance, a player may find themselves in a jungle or in a deep cave. In the latter case, they can dig down to bedrock or lava, which could prove deadly. Fortunately, if a player wants to avoid the risk of death, they can place their possessions in a chest and write down its coordinates. Then they can respawn at that location, avoiding the loss of their hard work.
